Now things really get going

Every time I see a road sign with ears, preferably purple with some red trim, I know I have arrived. Some people say the first Interstate sign that lists Walt Disney World is the moment for them, while others contend it is the Welcome archway, and there are a few who don’t feel like they have arrived until they see Cinderella Castle across the Seven Seas Lagoon. But for my part, a sign with mouse ears, some of which have arrows on one ear or the other, is the moment that swells my heart.

"UP Buckle" may be the most gloriously confusing sign on property..no matter how hard people try to convince me that mouse ears and a disembodied, Orlock-esque hand commanding me to "UP Buckle" makes perfect sense, I refuse to buy into the popular myth that Disney is just helpfully reminding me to Buckle Up. My theory is that UP Buckle is the mersmeric hook which commands you to return, planted in you by a Main Street music (which tells you to buy Ice Cream and balloons when played backwards).

I agree! It is subconsciously telling us up, as in Up, up and away, which immediately makes us think of Peter Pan, followed by Fantasyland, which in turns makes us homesick for the Magic Kingdom, and forcing us to turn around!

I wonder if I could convince my wife of that...
