Soaring High Over the Magic Kingdom

Sometimes you just need to send yourself a postcard from 1971. With the Walt Disney World logo that included the Florida flag, this Skyway postcard could have been sent to home or to far away friends between the time the Magic Kingdom opened until sometime between 1973 and 1976. The Skyway to Tomorrowland, or from Tomorrowland to Fantasyland, ceased its cabled flights over the park in 1999, but the station remained until just recently when it was removed in favor of an expanded restroom area.

No matter if it was in 1971, 1999, or in 2010, the alpine design of the Skyway station have an enormous amount of charm that has always made me smile. In fact, photos, postcards, and videos of the Skyway stations and flights still make me smile!

SKYWAY OVER THE MAGIC KINGDOM
Soaring high over the Magic Kingdom, guests aboard the Skyway gain a spectacular panorama of Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, and beyond.

We have a family video from about 1996 of us in the skyway from Tommorowland to Fantasyland. What a great ride that was with unique views of the Magic Kingdom. Hate that it's gone. I need to post that video on YouTube soon!

We rode this on our first visit to WDW in 1990. I can still remember boarding the car in Fantasyland.
