Nobody better lay a finger on my Butterfinger

There is a passion for desserts in Walt Disney World. You need look no further than the recent hoopla, and well-deserved hoopla at that, over the return of my, I mean the, beloved Citrus Swirl. Everyone has their favorites that they will defend to the bitter end, but sometimes there are desserts we can rally around. Amongst the sect dedicated to cupcakes there are a few that continually reign as top contenders for best cupcake in the Vacation Kingdom. One of these, Starring Rolls CafĂ©’s Butterfinger Cupcake, we’re finally digging into today.

For starters, this cupcake looks as if it were constructed as a monument to the Matterhorn, built out of ganache, chocolate cake, butterfinger and buttercream. The base of the Butterfinger Cupcake has to be sturdy to withstand the weight of the toppings piled skyward atop the cupcake. The chocolate cake is dense and moist, wrapped around a heaping dollop of chocolate ganache that is rich and thick, like a sweet dark chocolate paste that is okay to eat!

Moving on to the toppings, the mound heaped upon the cake starts out with a mountain of buttercream. The buttercream is as good as its name, that is buttery and creamy. While most buttercreams are light in texture, the combination of how much has been used and the coolers they are stored in give the Butterfinger Cupcake a much more compressed and heavy feel to it. The buttercream is then coated with a layer of ganache and then capped with a healthy dose of Butterfinger morsels. Creamy, flaky, crumbly, delicious fragments of Butterfingers that take this cupcake from good to great!

I only have one criticism of the Butterfinger Cupcake, which is that it needs more Butterfinger pieces in this baked good. My thoughts on how to do this range from working them into the ganache or cake batter, but how it’s done really doesn’t matter as long as this cupcake gets more Butterfinger crumbles!

As with a majority of the cupcakes around Walt Disney World, if you don’t want a dessert that is puckeringly sweet, then the Butterfinger Cupcake likely isn’t a good choice for you. However, if you’re ready to tackle a mountain of chocolate and sugar, then this cupcake is yours for the taking. Overall, the Butterfinger Cupcake is one of and handful of top desserts in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, alongside the Red Velvet Cheesecake Cupcake and Carrot Cake Cookie, and rightfully deserves its place alongside these sweet treats!

I've actually never tried this, but it's hard to imagine anything better than the Carrot Cake Cookie!

I think we have AJ to thank for that, don't you, Matt?

Dave, it isn't necessarily better than the Carrot Cake Cookie (which is number one in my Studios' book), but it is definitely a top tier snack!

The Red Velvet AND the Butterfinger Cupcakes are simply the best! To paraphrase what Matt has already said, the cupcakes at Starring Rolls are classic WDW treats. Just wish they'd keep the place open even later in the day!
