Drink line-up

We’ve put together a savory and a sweet dish, now how about something to wash it all down with? This is the first year a Caribbean booth has been present at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, and it brought some guest favorite drinks to the party with it. Should we give one a try? I think we’d be rude not to!
FROZEN DRAGON BERRY COLADA

Ingredients:

3 Ounces Piña Colada Mix
2 Ounces Bacardi Dragon Berry Rum
2 Ounces Strawberry Puree
1 Strawberry
Ice

Directions:
Pour Bacardi Dragon Berry, strawberry puree, and piña colada mix into blender with ice; blend until smooth.

Pour into hurricane glass and garnish with strawberry.

Yep, that’s all there is to it! Dump it all in a blender together and turn it on. Two notes on preparation, however. One, strawberry puree is pretty simple to make, basically just thoroughly blend a bunch of frozen or fresh strawberries with a bit of water (and sugar if you’re so inclined) and strain out the seeds with cheesecloth. There are better directions to be found on various cooking sites, but you get the gist. Secondly, I know colada mix is an easy ingredient and readily available, I just wish the recipe had not taken this shortcut.

As for the taste, this cocktail is a sweet one! I didn’t even add sugar to my puree, and yet the colada still packed quite the puckering ability. It’s that sweet! The creaminess of the coconut pairs well with the great strawberry flavor provide by the strawberries and the Bacardi.

Now, I’m not a fan of frozen liquor drinks, I prefer to have something on the rocks. However, my wife has been known to partake in a Grey Goose Citron Lemonade Slush from time to time. Her opinion of the drink is that is at the opposite end of the frozen beverage spectrum from the lemonade slush. In other words, if you like frozen margaritas, you will absolutely love this drink!

With easy to handle components and one step directions, making up batches of the Frozen Dragon Berry Colada is a no brainer. Not only is this a wonderful cocktail to sip on around World Showcase Promenade, it is also an essential recipe to have on hand for those friends and family members who prefer ‘girly drinks’ to the hard stuff.

Ryan~ my parents were at the Food and Wine festival last week, (I know I'm jealous too!) and had a dish that they loved but was not in the cook book they bought. They can't remember which country it was from just that it had Catamata olives in it. I was wondering if you knew what dish they were talking about and if so you had the recipe for it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ben, My best guess is Linguica Sausage with Onions, Peppers, and Olives from Portugal. My "F&W taste master" is not at home at the moment for his input. I don't have the recipe, that I know of.

Ryan, Thanks so much for the drink recipe. You rock!

Hey Ben, I think Mini-V is right about the dish. I don't have the recipe off hand, but I've sent off a request for it. When/if I get it, I'll be sure to pass it along!

Mini-V, glad you enjoyed the recipe!
