Eat'n to the beat

Sometimes on a hot day in Walt Disney World, you simply don’t want ice cream. The idea of having dairy sitting and percolating in your stomach as you wait in line or stand in the heat to watch a parade is enough to make your stomach churn, literally! May I recommend that on those days, when you’re feeling sluggish and not up for ice cream, that you mosey on down Sunset Boulevard and hang a left into the G-Force Records complex?

Here you will find KRNR – The Rock Station. It appears to be a radio station that has rolled out their satellite truck for an on location broadcast, but is in reality a snack location filled with beverages, some of the frozen variety, chips, cookies and, of course, the ubiquitous ice cream. What I come here for, however, are the smoothies.

I will admit, right from the start, that they do contain non-fat yogurt, which kind of goes against my whole ‘down with dairy’ snack idea, but stick with me. Added to the yogurt are a variety of sweet fruits: Strawberry, Banana, Strawberry-Banana, and Orange-Pineapple. There is even a Cappuccino version for those needing a coffee fix! After everything has been mixed and swirled and blended until it is a smooth a smoothie as possible, they hand it over. What you get is a slightly rich, very sweet, concoction that really refreshes and doesn’t leave you with that heavy dairy hangover that is the occasional result of ice cream on a hot day. The only thing you still have to watch out for is a brain freeze!

Now, I am in no way, shape, or form suggesting that ice cream shouldn’t be a part of life in Walt Disney World (hello, have you read my thoughts on the Citrus Swirl?!?!). What I am offering up is an alternative, something outside of the norm of floats and cones, cups and sundaes. I tend to opt for the Orange-Pineapple, in order to cut the sweet with something a bit astringent, but the choice is always your own. I only hope that I’ve given you a new idea.

Oh, one last recommendation, I highly advise that you grab the smoothie after riding Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, not before!
